The Source (or, How we made the album)

This album was recorded in the spring and summer of 2004 at the sadly, now-defunct Goonsville Studios, in Seattle, Washington.

Here's the gear we used to make it:

Guitars:

  • Either a custom Squire telecaster w/ humbuckers (outfitted by Peter Breyfogle of Breyfogle Instruments), or Epiphone Genesis
  • Pedals:
    • Boss tuner --> Mesa/Boogie V-twin Tube Pre-amp (Modded by Peter, again) --> Boss EQ --> Boss Phaser --> Boss tremolo (Modded by Robert Keeley) --> Boss Delay Unit
  • Amp:
    • Marshall Valvestate Amp head set on clean, just a touch of reverb -> Marshall 4-12 cabinet

Drums:

  • CB700 Internationalle (tom, floor tom, 2 crashes) --> 4 mics (bass, snare/hi-hat, 2 overheads) --> Behringer mixer --> 4 track, tracks 1 and 2

Bass:

  • Rickenbacker 4001 --> Crate bass combo, with a touch of compression

Vocals:

  • SM58 or 57 run through a presonus tube preamp and DBX table-top compressor

Recorders:

  • SM 57's or Beta SM57's for the overhead drum mics
  • Yamaha MT4X cassette 4-track
  • M-Audio Delta44
  • Sonar3 Studio Edition

Duplicators:

  • Diskfaktory in Irvine CA, 100 discs for 3.00 each
